Jigsaws make the ideal gift or just as a pastime to wind away dull and dreary days. Many jigsaws have the ability to actually stimulate the brain helping to improve your intellectual power and cognitive capabilities.

The jigsaw puzzle has many years of illustrious pastimes reverting back to the early 1760′s. The jigsaw came about through European map makers who created maps through pasting maps on to wooden surfaces and then cutting them out in to small pieces. Then as you can guess if these pieces became mixed up it had to then be pieced back in to place making an amusing pastime which has been successful ever since.

The jigsaw comes in many unique shapes and styles which can be extremely easy or very difficult depending on your own taste. In the early days jigsaw puzzles were very challenging. Many pieces were cut exact to the color lines without transitional pieces such as we have today where you can see for instance the blue color of sky against different colors based around the picture. On top of this the pieces did not interlock like the pieces within the standard puzzles of today. A stumble, sneeze or careless movement could undo an entire day’s work. Also the puzzles did not have a picture guide situated on the front of the box, so it was either trial or error that led to the puzzle gaining completion.

The cost of the jigsaw was very expensive in the early periods due to the work placed in to making the wooden puzzles. Each piece had to be cut out one at a time. So it was mainly wealthy families who first were introduced to the pleasures of the jigsaw. It was only over the years of 1909 – 1910 that the jigsaw became immensely popular with society through the innovations of the Parker Brothers. The Parker Brothers introduced figure pieces which were a lot easier to assemble combined with interlocking styling which reduced the risk of losing pieces.

However it was not until the Great Depression in 1929 that puzzles enjoyed a resurgence of popularity and actually peaking within 1933 when sales reached an amazing amount of 10 million per week. The puzzle seemed to offer an escape from the troubled reality of unemployment, possibly due to feeling a certain sense of success when completing a jigsaw puzzle.

The die-cut cardboard puzzle was the next important development for adults which came in to circulation around the mid 1930′s. With the mass production of cardboard manufacturers were able to cut prices dramatically on puzzles which enabled people to purchase a jigsaw puzzle for next to nothing. In fact most retail stores were offering free puzzles when you purchased certain items as a marketing tool.

The popularity of the jigsaw through the years of Depression saw the birth of Par Puzzles long thought of as the “Rolls Royce” of all jigsaws. These came about through two young men who were out of work, John Henriques and Frank Ware. They first started by creating their very own jigsaw puzzle within the confines of their dining room in 1932. At this time other manufacturers were cutting costs which in turn reduced the quality of their puzzles. This was where Par excelled; they steadily improved the quality of their puzzles alongside marketing them to affluent movie stars and even the royal family. As their company grew, Par started to specialize in customized puzzles, often featuring the customer’s name and date of birth within the jigsaw.

With the onset of World War II the jigsaw demised. Increasing wages pushed up the cost dramatically, due to the time it took to cut the jigsaw puzzles. As the prices increased the sales dropped. This was a sad period in the life of the jigsaw puzzle, some of the major manufacturers now started to disappear and led to the retirement of Par and the Parker Brothers discontinued their once popular “Pastime Puzzles”.

However as time led on new innovations came in to play with the improvements in lithography and die-cutting making the cardboard puzzles a lot more attractive. With the puzzler addicts starting to suffer withdrawal symptoms, Dave Tibbett’s and Steve Richardson took hold of the opportunity and founded their very own puzzle company called Stave Puzzles which within only two years succeeded Par as leaders within the world of wooden puzzles. In fact Stave actually excelled and went beyond Par, by commissioning original artwork and experimented with pop-up figure pieces which in turn led to the success of the three dimensional puzzles. As the years moved on Richardson carried on experimenting and finally invented a vast variety of “Trick Puzzles” that actually fit together in many different ways however there is only one correct solution. Stave went from strength to strength emphasizing the choice of personalized puzzles and service up to the point of even remembering their customer’s birthdays.

This magazine delivers information about camping that’s adventurous and active, yet still relaxing. It also mentions other outdoor activities like: day-hiking, fishing, canoing and kayaking. Excellent information and tips for a weekend family escape or longer vacations.

Camping brings us the contact with nature. The fresh air is full of vitamins that carry health into our lungs and therefore the whole benefits from it.

I personally hate the ants and flies we come across while camping, but with the right insect repellents we are able to enjoy camping at its fullest.

I have a big backyard where I have the Intex pool during Summer. There is also some extra space where I have some flowers, trees and where I would like to build a Koi Pond. I made a little research and I found out that to build a beautiful and healthy pond I will need several things:

good liner

pool pump

pool filter

don’t put too many fish on the pond

aquatic weed control

water plants (like lilies)

a net to clean the water surface

a water fountain is optional

and I will need water and the fish of course

Building a pond is in our to-do-list but it’s not a priority.

Woodworking is an enjoyable and addictive thing, however folk are susceptible to underestimating the value of planning which is where everything goes down! Really even just a bit bit of planning might have saved lots of time energy and patience. The majority end up giving them to the illusion that woodworking is all about hammering wood together so how much planning could it possibly need? Well if you took a look at even one woodworking plan youwill understand how much goes into even simple woodworking projects such as a chair.

Any good ending commenced at good planning and this applies to Woodworking 4 Home too. In order to make some great woodworking projects, you are going to want some great woodworking plans. There are some really good woodworking websites online that you can use to both find out more about woodworking and download any conceivable woodworking projects. You can some of the links to some good woodworking resources down in this post.

Due to the sheer range of plans that are available online you can not truly go screwy online . Because the Internet offers such sheer reach, many woodworking experts have selected it over traditional media as a means of reaching out to people fascinated by their art. You may also e-mail to a woodworking expert online if you fall into doubt. Most woodworking pros are truly friendly and welcome doubts from fellow woodworking enthusiasts.

An additional advantage that you must definitely take advantage of its net forums. These are fully the best place for learning firsthand information on woodworking and also learn from experienced woodworking experts.
Lastly, be safe! I know it sounds pretty standard ( naturally you may be…right ) but it only takes as long as you become used to something prior to starting becoming sloppy at it. If you can then find some posters relating to safety in your local marketplace and put it on the wall. Also definitely have a prudent place where you can practice your woodworking, not merely will it guarantee your safety but also the safety of your relatives. If you have kids then it goes without saying that you must keep the tools beyond reach from them. Many individuals also have the habit of listening to music while they do something, while this is ok for writing or typing, it is better left out altogether when you are working with sharpened hardware.

I have a library at home or you can call it the reading room where all my books since little girl are. I was an avid reader since early age. I have juvenile complete collections and some I bought or were offered to me throughout my life.

But guess what, internet took away my reading pleasure, I mean I still love to read but, internet takes all my free time away and I end up not reading.

I confess that in the last three years (since I got more active online) I have not read a single book. I get lost among all those webinars, free reports, blueprints and textbooks. I find all the information I need online but I miss reading a good romance, a good thriller. I find books much more appealing than movies and I used to like to read the book and then watch the movie, but right now, I have no time.

I wish my kids will have the same pleasure in reading like I have but I think computers, television and video games are taking that away from them. How bother reading a book when all the information they seek is online? That’s our kid’s mentality nowadays.

What is your opinion?

There are already people that make personalized items with the photo of the person that is going to use it. Also, personalized footballs with the image of the favorite player are also available to be ordered.

Some teams are a little upset with all the talking about the violence in South Africa but I hope they can play safely and fairly. Let the best win!

There are many of us who have a passion towards embroidery. There are basically 3 ways when it comes to starting work on these intricate yet beautiful embroidery designs. One could either do it themselves by drawing a pattern to be stenciled on to the material and the other way is to draw the design on paper and have it professionally digitized into an embroidery pattern. Another way to do it is to buy the design itself.

Buying pre designed embroidery design can also bring into the enjoyment of making something original. You can get your creative juices going as you design your own fun graphics. It should only take you a minute or two to draw up a quick sketch and digitizers can turn them into patterns for you to follow. You can then practice your own embroidery on your own designs. One hurdle you could encounter while you try and turn your custom made design and place on top of fabric, is that it may not look as good as it is on paper. This is where professionally designed work is better than one which is designed by you and me. Professional digitizers have a completely unique understanding of what works rather well with thread and fabric.

If you are too good with your Leisure Hobbies and Activities which could be say embroidery then would not the idea of converting your hobby and leisure activity into a full time profession? It could be so wonderful if you could somehow take this a step further and evolve out a business opportunity from it. There could not be anything as satisfying and enjoyable as the chance to take up your hobby and make it as your career.

Your hobby could be anything; it could be painting, drawing, photography, traveling or may be even making friends. All that is needed from you is to take a closer look at your hobby and try and add to it a business twist. For example, say if you enjoy photography then you could tie up and get into a working relationship with a magazine or a paper and provide them with the photographs that you click for them to use! It is as convenient as that. In the same way say you are fond of traveling and making friends then you can go forward and pick up a marketing option.

There are many hobbies you can turn into a full time business.
