If cute and furry rodents tickle your fancy (and you fancy them tickling your fingers), then a gerbil could be a good pet choice for you. Little pets like these are simply irresistible. They may be tiny, but they do pack a wallop. Read on to learn more about gerbils as pets and how to best care for these rat look-alikes.

One important thing to remember about gerbils is that they are very sociable by nature. These creatures prefer to be in a group than in solitude. Talk about party animals! Keep them in single-sex groups, unless you want them to breed like hell. They are naturally curious and can be tamed pretty easily.

Gerbils can be good as children’s pets because unlike hamsters, they are not primarily nocturnal. They don’t like to be cuddled or handled for a long time, though, since they are naturally active and prefer the freedom of scurrying about.

Another quality which sets gerbils apart from hamsters is that they are easy to capture, in case they escape from their cage. Unlike hamsters which might choose to disappear under a gap in the floorboards, gerbils prefer to remain on the surface. Attention whores, these gerbils!

Gerbils are known to be natural burrowers, so it’s best to just convert an old aquarium into a home for them. Fill it with wood shavings and a few cardboard tubes from old tissue paper rolls. These are, as what Fraulein Maria from The Sound of Music would call, “a few of their favorite things”. A secure covering made of wire mesh attached to a wooden framework should be placed over the enclosure, to keep these gregarious gerbils from jumping out.

A gerbil’s diet consists mainly of seeds, green stuff and veggies. But do not feed them huge amounts of oil-based seeds such as sunflower, as these can cause obesity. Provide them with fresh water to drink, although they really aren’t heavy drinkers.

As with any little pet, a gerbil should be handled with care. It’s not one of those pets which enjoy being handled, so when trying to restrain a gerbil, let it first sniff at your fingers, and then gently coax it on to your hand. Don’t hold it tightly, so it won’t bite. Acting on instinct, it may faint as it would if caught by a predator. If your gerbil does this, just put it in a quiet spot, and it will soon recover.

If you have got school age children, it’s a good bet that you spend a lot of time on crafts projects . If you are good with tools, you can construct a table with plywood and a few two-by-fours for legs and struts. Having a dedicated space just for these projects is a good idea as it will save you from cleaning the mess from the dining table which would otherwise have been used for doing these craft projects. Whether you have got a tiny corner in a den or sewing room, or a large space in the garage, you can make a craft table that becomes a craft project all on its own.

If you are willing to spend a little time and save a lot of money, cruise the thrift shops and used furniture shops until you find a suitable table. There is so much you can do with these tables in order to beautify them up! You can use construction paper and glue, acrylic paint, stickers, magazine photos, cheap printing drawings, or just about anything and let your kids make their DIY craft hobby table into a work of art! Let them think on strange ways to decorate their part of the table.

If you have got more than one child, make it a joint project. If one child wishes to use acrylic paints and another wants to decorate his section with magazine photos, let them go for what they will take pleasure in doing best. Let them work and revise their craft hobby table top.

Digital photography is a type of photography in which the image is captured by an array of light sensitive sensors. The captured image is stored as an electronic file in digital form. This file can then be digitally processed, including color correction and alteration of sizing, and then the file is sent for printing.

A digital camera is a device which is used to take pictures in digital photography. Digital cameras come with an inbuilt flash memory. The images can be stored in this flash memory. Digital cameras have a provision for inserting additional memory card for storing more images. The inbuilt memory can store only up to a certain extent based on the memory capacity.

A digital camera can be connected to a computer by means of a USB cable and the stored images can be transferred to the computer. In addition to the photo images, digital cameras can also be used to record video and store it as a video file in the memory.

The quality of the image produced by a digital camera depends on various factors such as the number of pixels used in the sensor, quality of the lens and the file format in which the image is stored. The number of pixels for a resolution is arrived at by multiplying the number of horizontal pixels with the number of vertical pixels. For a resolution of 1600*1200, the number of pixels is 1600*1200, which comes to 1.92 mega pixels. There is one more term called the aspect ratio, which is the ratio of the number of horizontal pixels to the number of vertical pixels. Most digital cameras come with an aspect ratio of 4:3.

Digital cameras come in two basic forms. One is the compact digital camera, normally used by an amateur photographer and the second is the DSLR Digital camera which is used by professional photographers. DSLR stands for Digital Single Lens Reflex, and these cameras use a mechanical mirror in the system in addition to the other features of the compact digital camera. This mirror is used to provide viewfinder features.

DSLR cameras are mostly used by professional photographers as they allow an accurate preview of the image before it is actually taken. DSLRs also allow the user to choose from a variety of interchangeable lenses. DSLR have larger sensors compared to the sensors used in a compact digital camera.

Body art comes in different forms, the most frequent of which are tattoos. Tattoos are just about the most ancient forms of body art, for which you will end up providing the canvas. And because tattoos have soared in popularity within the last decade, there’s no shortage of tattoo “studios” willing to practice their artistry on you.

Tattoos originated as ancient, symbolic art forms, and many retain their symbolic meanings today. Although you may still find some people who get tattoos strictly based on the design, some of the people tend to regret their choice of tattoo later on in life. Tattoos can be very beautiful, and capture much positive attention. Most people who decide to get tattoos today choose them for their symbolic meaning, along with the beauty. Women and men alike have tattoos; some small tattoos, some large tattoos encompassing their entire body and today tattoos are more common than ever, particularly small tattoos.

Tattoo artists will willing to place dull lifeless designs in a seemingly haphazard way, but they tend to treat the body as a three-dimensional canvas onto which each tattoo is placed, to exist in balance with the body and any existing tattoos. Permanent tattoo designs differ depending on culture, religious affiliations, gender, or personal liking and selections. For certain tattoo designs, some people prefer to check out real life photos or browse through artwork for ideas pertaining to their tattoo designs.

Many individuals select tattoo designs from those presented at a tattoo parlor, while others approach some research and help ensure that their design is unlike any other. While there are tattoo designs that are gender specific, it is very important understand that getting a tattoo is an extremely personal thing and the image that is ultimately chosen should be one that reflects something that is important to the wearer.

Although there are many exceptions, most males and females will naturally be drawn to different tattoo designs. Of all tattoo designs, women commonly select small feminine tattoos with hearts, butterflies, flowers, lettering, etc. Men, alternatively, often prefer that their tattoo designs be placed on the upper arm, like a Robbie Williams tattoo on the chest or back.

A number of the more popular themes center on the following:

Butterflies

Dragons

Flowers

Crosses

Fairy

Irish

Celtic

Animals

Dolphins

Tribal

Some popular sub themes are:

cat tattoo designs

zodiac tattoo designs

dolphin tattoo designs

heart tattoo designs

small feminine tattoos

With the exception of people with already chosen their preferred image, it is usually very difficult from which to choose the many tattoo designs right then. Usually, folks don’t take some time to really think about why they choose a particular tattoo and look at other tattoo designs available. It takes many decision-making along with researching for meanings of different tattoo designs and ideas. There are millions of designs out there for tattoos – including different color combinations that have helped to make tattoos the phenomenon they are today. Should you be ready to produce a significant investment inside you art then custom design tattoos are for you.

One of the topics in Los Angeles Painting lessons is glass painting. It is referred to painting on the surface of a sheet of glass being included in a stained glass work. This kind of painting, which is actually closer to drawing than painting, was done to add details for instance faces and folds of fabric that could hardly be added with traditional lead lines. It was also used to cover up portions of stained glass works to ensure that light was kept from shining through.

There are several significant forms of conventional stained glass paints, including vinegar trace paint, matt paint, silver stain, and oil based paints.

* Vinegar trace paint

This paint, which is dark and totally obstructs out the light in the areas where it is carried out, is often times used for figure or design lines. It is relatively heavy and must be mixed with water, vinegar, and gum arabic to use. Gum arabic, which helps the paint stick to the glass, is generally bought in powder form and need to be mixed with water or alcohol just before using.

* Matt paint

Matt paint, which uses a base of either water and gum arabic or water and vinegar, is very simple to apply when compared with vinegar trace paint. It might be applied heavily or thinly and can also be mixed thoroughly and stippled or worked with a second brush to provide it a unique texture. A few designers even apply it using their hands to produce more uncommon effects.

* Silver stain

Silver stain, which is supplied in colors of red, yellow, and orange, will get its name from the presence of silver nitrate within the stain. After firing, it turns golden, not silver-colored. It is unlike paint in that it basically transforms the shade of the glass, rather than merely masking it with a dark line or wash.

* Oil-based stained glass paints

Some great benefits of oil-based glass paints are that they are available in more colors, are less difficult to use, and are not affected by general atmospheric situations. The major downside of these paints is that they tend to be less consistent in application; though colors could be blended like regular oil paints, they do not always merge easily or completely and at times fire unevenly.

Stained glass has a number of risks associated with the process, but fortunately, all are simply avoided with a few basic precautions. Little slashes from the glass are to be anticipated; keep bandages handy. Big or deep cuts are sporadic and usually happen when dealing with or relocating the glass; not while dealing with it. And soon you are used to handling glass, it may be a good idea to wear hand protection. Break the glass away from your body. Put on safety goggles when grozeing, and grinding.

You can only acquire lead poisoning by ingesting the lead. Meaning – do not eat it! Do not eat, drink or smoke cigarettes while handling the lead. When soldering, remember to be inside a properly ventilated location, as flux fumes are very toxic.

Los Angeles Painting lessons see that all one requires for this art may be the interest to paint, several creativeness, and lots of patience. You can look online for designs for glass painting, whereby you can try out different kinds of paintings. Once the skills of glass painting have been mastered, you can actually try one’s hand at stained glass. Glass paintings make great gifts, and because they are homemade, they are appreciated even more.

Photography is a way that we capture memories in a single moment in time. Whether it is a smile, a flower, a tree, a monument, a house or even Birkhill Castle, through photography we can save and share those moments and images forever.

While a snapshot might be a nice thing for a photo album, what can you do to bring a memory to life on your walls? Here we’ll be discussing ways to decorate your home with memories, and the best ways to showcase them.

Digital Frames

Digital frames are nice, especially for older and younger family and friends. They usually come with a usb dongle adapter, so you can load all the best pictures up. Before buying a digital frame, you should have your pictures scanned by someone, or you can do this yourself; if you have a large volume of photos you might want to hire someone else to do it for you so you don’t have to spend too much time on this. Many digital frames will run through a cycle of different photos loaded onto It, and you can even set it to make neat little transition effects.

Canvas Art

Canvas art is a great way to showcase your photos, and some companies can even make pop art style portraits of you. This can be a fun way to decorate your house and showcase an important moment in your life. When choosing a picture for use as a canvas, check your photo’s DPI! A DPI of 150 is recommended for standard printers and 50-100 for gicleé prints. These are usually thought of as nicer than a digital frame, as it’s something tangible that you can pass on to others, and won’t become outdated or outmoded by software and hardware.

Photo gifts

Photo gifts are available from a wide array of vendors and sites, with anything from coffee cups, calendars, blankets and more. You can make personalized flip books (photo albums in paperback book form) and just about any other type of product imaginable from your own photos. The biggest plus of this type of gift or product is that it’s individualized, and you can make any kind of gift with it.

In the end all you need is a good photo and your imagination!

The more you exist, the more memories you are going to have. If you are not watchful, you can fill your home to the rim with your memories, and you won’t have room for everything else. Have 1 or 2 plastic boxes or steel drums to store your souvenirs. Decide what you wish to keep, and what you can do without. When these containers are filled, the rule is to lose, or give away, one thing before you put another item in.

This will guarantee only the most prized memories are stored in your Memory Box ( es ). While packing clothing for a trip, lay out all you think you’ll need on your bed — then, put 1/2 it back in your wardrobe. Most people take far more than is crucial and end up hauling needless weight on the way. Chances are, you will be able to wear each outfit at least 2 times, especially if you mix ‘n match different tops with different bottoms.

Organizing your home or office does take significant energy. That’s why knowing your top energy level is so essential and the reason a lot of folks think of providing this kind of service a legitimate home business opportunity. If you are an early bird and your energy level is extremely high in the morning, that it’s the perfect time for you to declutter. If you have more energy at night, organize in that time instead.

With the quantity of things you’ve got to keep in mind in any particular day, why should you try and stuff it all into your memory bank? When you would like to remember something, the very best action to take is write it down. Then, when you need to recall it, it’ll be there for you in a second. If you are at work, and you need to do something when you arrive home, call your answering machine and leave yourself a message. When you get home, you will hear your message and remember exactly what you needed to do.

I recently met a person that has an interesting hobby: he collects cigars from all over the word. His collection has increased a lot these last two years because he started shopping online for the cigars. He ended up discovering that cigars internet prices were worthier than asking friends and strange travelers to bring him cigars from the places they were visiting.

I also know a person that is trying to enter the Guiness Book with the larger collection of sugar packs.

Well, some collect stamps other coins and others have stranger hobbies.

Jigsaws make the ideal gift or just as a pastime to wind away dull and dreary days. Many jigsaws have the ability to actually stimulate the brain helping to improve your intellectual power and cognitive capabilities.

The jigsaw puzzle has many years of illustrious pastimes reverting back to the early 1760′s. The jigsaw came about through European map makers who created maps through pasting maps on to wooden surfaces and then cutting them out in to small pieces. Then as you can guess if these pieces became mixed up it had to then be pieced back in to place making an amusing pastime which has been successful ever since.

The jigsaw comes in many unique shapes and styles which can be extremely easy or very difficult depending on your own taste. In the early days jigsaw puzzles were very challenging. Many pieces were cut exact to the color lines without transitional pieces such as we have today where you can see for instance the blue color of sky against different colors based around the picture. On top of this the pieces did not interlock like the pieces within the standard puzzles of today. A stumble, sneeze or careless movement could undo an entire day’s work. Also the puzzles did not have a picture guide situated on the front of the box, so it was either trial or error that led to the puzzle gaining completion.

The cost of the jigsaw was very expensive in the early periods due to the work placed in to making the wooden puzzles. Each piece had to be cut out one at a time. So it was mainly wealthy families who first were introduced to the pleasures of the jigsaw. It was only over the years of 1909 – 1910 that the jigsaw became immensely popular with society through the innovations of the Parker Brothers. The Parker Brothers introduced figure pieces which were a lot easier to assemble combined with interlocking styling which reduced the risk of losing pieces.

However it was not until the Great Depression in 1929 that puzzles enjoyed a resurgence of popularity and actually peaking within 1933 when sales reached an amazing amount of 10 million per week. The puzzle seemed to offer an escape from the troubled reality of unemployment, possibly due to feeling a certain sense of success when completing a jigsaw puzzle.

The die-cut cardboard puzzle was the next important development for adults which came in to circulation around the mid 1930′s. With the mass production of cardboard manufacturers were able to cut prices dramatically on puzzles which enabled people to purchase a jigsaw puzzle for next to nothing. In fact most retail stores were offering free puzzles when you purchased certain items as a marketing tool.

The popularity of the jigsaw through the years of Depression saw the birth of Par Puzzles long thought of as the “Rolls Royce” of all jigsaws. These came about through two young men who were out of work, John Henriques and Frank Ware. They first started by creating their very own jigsaw puzzle within the confines of their dining room in 1932. At this time other manufacturers were cutting costs which in turn reduced the quality of their puzzles. This was where Par excelled; they steadily improved the quality of their puzzles alongside marketing them to affluent movie stars and even the royal family. As their company grew, Par started to specialize in customized puzzles, often featuring the customer’s name and date of birth within the jigsaw.

With the onset of World War II the jigsaw demised. Increasing wages pushed up the cost dramatically, due to the time it took to cut the jigsaw puzzles. As the prices increased the sales dropped. This was a sad period in the life of the jigsaw puzzle, some of the major manufacturers now started to disappear and led to the retirement of Par and the Parker Brothers discontinued their once popular “Pastime Puzzles”.

However as time led on new innovations came in to play with the improvements in lithography and die-cutting making the cardboard puzzles a lot more attractive. With the puzzler addicts starting to suffer withdrawal symptoms, Dave Tibbett’s and Steve Richardson took hold of the opportunity and founded their very own puzzle company called Stave Puzzles which within only two years succeeded Par as leaders within the world of wooden puzzles. In fact Stave actually excelled and went beyond Par, by commissioning original artwork and experimented with pop-up figure pieces which in turn led to the success of the three dimensional puzzles. As the years moved on Richardson carried on experimenting and finally invented a vast variety of “Trick Puzzles” that actually fit together in many different ways however there is only one correct solution. Stave went from strength to strength emphasizing the choice of personalized puzzles and service up to the point of even remembering their customer’s birthdays.
