And how does the race actually take place?

The balloons will fly across a range of sites, picking up speed & distance bonuses as they fly. They can also pick up tokens for entry in to free prize draws.

There are already a bunch of sites signed up to support the race, including The Sun and Yahoo.

Head to http://www.playballoonacy.com and participate.

I’m hosting this race also on these blogs:

Facebook

Posted on April 22nd, 2008 in Blogging by Laura

I really like the way Facebook works and makes “friends” interact with each other, but I have to face it, I don’t have time to check Facebook everyday.

Facebook is great to meet new friends, to know what they like, what kind of music they listen to, what movies they watch, I would like to send gifts to my friends, write in their fun walls, grow gardens, meet other members with the same movie taste, update my mood, but the truth is I don’t have the time to do so.

What I did was a clean up, I had more then 100 invitations, requests, gifts, etc., etc. and I must confess I delete them all. I also removed some applications I had and never used, so my page is now reduced to only a few applications. I know some people are addicted to Facebook, well I don’t need a drug rehab because I’m not addicted to it, at least for now.

Free program or plugin to hide affiliate

Posted on April 19th, 2008 in Blogging,Programs by Laura

I’m looking for a free program to hide affiliate links. I’ve done a little search and the ones I found although easy to use, it takes a little time to incorporate the link in the post because we have to use FTP. I need a program or plugin I can use directly when I’m writing the post. Nothing so complicated as bpm or a paid program like WP Affiliate Pro.

So, if someone reading this posts knows a plugin to hide affiliate links I will appreciate your comments.

EntreDroppers

Posted on April 12th, 2008 in Blogging,Free Stuff,Useful Stuff by Laura

Owen from Ugh!!’s Greymatter Honeypot has developed the EntreDroppers for those using Entrecard.

EntreDroppers is a wordpress widget that allows bloggers to include in their sidebar a widget that will list the last Entrecard droppers they had on their blogs. This widget is very easy to set, you can list as many droppers as you want and even use a “drop” menu. You can find more information on Owen’s post.

Cleaning up my computer files

Posted on March 17th, 2008 in Blogging,Useful Services by Laura

Today I decided to take a few minutes and optimize my laptop.

  1. I took a look at all programs installed and removed the ones I never use. Some of them I installed thinking I would use them and it ended up that they did not fill my needs.
  2. Removed the desktop items I don’t use.
  3. Deleted all temp files as well as small programs windows creates
  4. Images created and stored automatically in the disk were also removed
  5. Error messages and possible solutions stored by windows were removed

With all this clean up I freed 8GB from my disk. With these steps, I hope to get a more clean and soft working laptop and extend a little its longevity.

StumbleUpon is not working for me

Posted on March 8th, 2008 in Blogging by Laura

I’m having some trouble with Stumble Upon toolbar. I have the toolbar installed on my firefox and each time I like one post I just have to press the “I like it!” button. Well, it should work this way but lately I have been pressing the button a few times and only today I discovered that the posts are not showing up on my Stumble Upon page. Why? I don’t know.

I receive some extra traffic each time “I Like It!’ a page and for the last week that hasn’t been happening, well I figured out today why not…it’s not working. I have to try and find out what is going on.

I would like some feedback from heavy Stumbles please!!!

Entrecard - Advertise for free

For a few weeks that I’ve been seen those banners from Entrecard and although I entered in the front page several times, I never signed up, well until last week.

Last week I signed up and at first it looked a little confused but after reading the Entrecard guide page everything was clear.

After signing up with Entrecard you just have to look around at other bloggers cards, visit their site, drop your card and earn Entrecard Credits. You can then use the EC you earn to advertise on other bloggers sites. If they accept your card you will show on their Entrecard badger. Bloggers can accept or reject the advertise request.

Sounds confusing? What about having to have one account for each blog? That’s really tough, worse if you have many blogs. I have three so I must have three email addresses and three Entrecard accounts. The worse part: once dropping cards is a good thing, I never know which Entrecard I am dropping. I like to drop cards on my category, once I have three categories I have to pay attention to the Entrecard I am dropping.

The real good thing, I’m getting to know many good sites, some of them already added to my feed reader.

Cleaning my database directories

Posted on February 15th, 2008 in Blogging,Useful Stuff by Laura

Clean up time over here and on my other blogs. A few months ago I wanted to change the templates so I downloaded a few, tried them and I finally made my choice. I ended up having several templates on my template directory as well as on my plugin directory. Some plugins were just for testing, to try if they were suitable for my blog and the ones not in use remained there deactivated.

All not in use templates are being deleted as well as the plugins I tested and I don’t intend to activate .

I recommend this to all bloggers, it can prevent some CPU over quota errors (I had this in the past) and it will make your database lighter.

So today instead of cleaning my house or doing a colon cleanser to clean my body, I’m cleaning my database directories.

Are you really getting donations on your blog?

Posted on February 9th, 2008 in Blogging,Useful Stuff by Laura

These last few days, while catching up with my feed reader, I noticed that a large number of blogs have on the sidebar the “Donation Option”. I wonder, are bloggers getting donations from other bloggers? Do bloggers really make a donation for a coffee or a simple donation to another blogger? Is it just a “bait”? Does it work?

If you have a Donation button on your sidebar please let me know if you are getting donations and if blogger tell you why they are donating. For sure the donations won’t be enough for a business funding, but if they really help us to buy a cup of coffee, I’m in.

Twessenger - Conecting Twitter to MSN Messenger

Posted on February 7th, 2008 in Blogging,Free Stuff,Fun Stuff,Useful Services,Useful Stuff by Laura

I’m still trying to figure out how to Twitter straight into Messenger. I found this interesting post through TwitterFeed where OwenC writes about a MSN Messenger Add-on called Twessenger that makes the connection between Twitter and MSN Messenger. I followed all the steps but it still isn’t working for me.

What is supposed to happen is, each time you write a Twitter our MSN Messenger will update our status with the Twitter Message. This will bring you more exposure once, those that don’t use Twitter or are not following you on Twitter, but are a contact in your MSN Messenger are able to see your Twitter updates. I guess I’m going to go through all the steps again and see if I can make it work. This is a good service!!

Twitterfeed

I like to use Twitter and sometimes I use almost as a IM. These last 12 days, has I was at home, I used it more often and I was able to notice some messages coming from Twitterfeed.

I check the Twitterfeed site and found out that I could set an account and have my feed checked and published on Twitter.

It works this way, we sign up for an account using a OpenID, we insert the feeds of our blogs and each time we publish a new post a new Twitter message is automatically published in Twitter. We can choose the way we want the message to show up: Some text and URL, only some text, a small post sentence and URL.

It’s interesting to see the posts being published in real time. Great way for our followers to check on our blog updates.

OpenID

Posted on January 21st, 2008 in Blogging,Useful Services,Useful Sites,Useful Stuff by Laura

OpenID is the new generation of login. One login for several sites, this avoids sign ups in different sites.

OpenID is the start of the path to your code that will allow you to enter a site. By pre-choosing 5 categories among nine, each time you want to login in one of those sites you have to enter your OpenID and you will be asked to write your code. Your code is the letters corresponding to the pre-chosen categories.

There are a few sites already using OpenID. I was a little confused at first but now it’s very easy to use. You just have to always remember your categories to figure out your code.
