With all the talk about weight loss in our society it’s easy to forget that there are people who actually want to gain weight – not lose it. Though it may seem an enviable position to be in, having a hard time gaining weight can be frustrating for these people. If you find it hard to put on muscle mass, no matter how hard you work out, you know how desperate your actions can be. Just like a person who will do anything to lose weight, a person who has a hard time gaining weight will often times try just about anything, sometimes even unhealthy things, to put on a few pounds.

You don’t have to spend a ton of money on every new supplement that comes out in order to gain some healthy weight. In fact, a few tweaks to your diet may be all that it takes to start packing on more muscle quickly. Here are a few tips to help you add more muscle weight to your frame.

  • Get your extra calories from lean protein sources. Too many people who want to gain weight try to simply ingest more calories. If you load up on sugars and other complex carbohydrates in an attempt to gain muscle, you will see very limited results. If you add more calories to your diet, try to use lean sources of protein to do it. You don’t want to gain a bunch of body-fat but that is what can happen by adding too many, empty calories from carbohydrates.
  • Eat extra meals each day. In addition to your regular breakfast, lunch and dinner, start eating a few smaller to medium sized meals in between. Pack these meals with healthy vegetables and lean protein sources, like tuna or chicken breast. Some people need a portable oxygen concentrator, well, you need healthy food pack meals.
  • Take in your protein in smaller doses. Many people will try to take in gargantuan levels of protein to gain weight. Anything more than 20 to 30 grams of protein at any one meal is usually a waste. Your body can only use protein at these kinds of levels. If you get excessive in taking in large doses of protein, your body will end up wasting the extra protein.

Try these tips in your eating plan to add some extra muscle to your body. Make sure that you also stay consistent with your workouts in order to keep the muscle additions coming. You can gain weight but you will have to be consistent with your efforts.
